Back to Water Softener Installation Cost and Quote Breakdown

Use this sheet to make two written quotes comparable. Enter your own dated provider terms. Ask each provider who performs each task, what is included, how changes are approved, and what evidence you receive at close. The installation cost guide explains site conditions that can change the scope.

Print this page to annotate a quote, or download the quote scope CSV to compare providers in a spreadsheet.

In the CSV, fill the rows marked YOUR_INPUT. Keep ILLUSTRATIVE_EXAMPLE rows separate from your quote totals. Amounts are entered by you; the CSV does not calculate automatically.

Exact model, performance sheet, and supplied parts ______ ______ ______ Model and manual
Site access, location, and any finish restoration ______ ______ ______ Approved location and photos
Plumbing cut-in, fittings, shutoff, and bypass ______ ______ ______ Scope and leak check
Drain receptor, air gap, and overflow route ______ ______ ______ Photos and discharge check
Electrical work and applicable continuity review ______ ______ ______ Qualified-trade record where needed
Permit, inspection, and corrections ______ ______ ______ Permit and closed inspection
Removal, disposal, and cleanup ______ ______ ______ Removal record and clean area

Leak, flow, drain, and treated-hardness acceptance tests ______ ______ ______ Results with units and test points
Warranty documents, tax, payment schedule, and expiration ______ ______ ______ Final contract and documents

Record an excluded item even if its price is unknown. Do not add a price for work that the quote already includes. Confirm local code and any required licensed work with the responsible professional or authority; this sheet does not instruct you to perform plumbing or electrical work.

Worked example with a sample quote

These are hypothetical line amounts, not a provider quote or a statement of typical installation cost. Assume each amount is included once, in USD, with no unpriced exclusions:

Written line in the example Hypothetical USD
Exact system and supplied components 1,800
Plumbing and fittings 350
Drain work 100
Permit and inspection 100
Programming, startup, and acceptance tests 100
Removal and cleanup 50
Installed total 2,500

Arithmetic: 1,800 + 350 + 100 + 100 + 100 + 50 = 2,500 USD. If electrical work or restoration is needed but excluded, the total is incomplete until a dated price and responsible party are recorded. The same sample installed total is used in the first-year budget example; neither example supplies a real-world price.

Before signing, compare quotes against identical treatment goals and acceptance tests. Ask for written change rules and a dated, itemized installed total that states taxes, allowances, exclusions, and expiration.
